Shape of the Eiffel Tower

The shape of the Eiffel Tower was criticized by many people for being so bold and too artistic. They assumed it wasn't taken into consideration the engineering of the structure. However, Gustave Eiffel knew that since it was going to be the tallest structure in Paris (and at the time, the whole world) that it needed to be able to withstand all weather conditions. The shape and structure was decided by a mathematical equation involving wind resistance.
